BARRACKS

Barracks explores the present-day conditions of Fort Dunree, Ireland. The abandoned barracks are now reduced to ruins, reclaimed by nature. This work questions our idea of shelter and protection, and finding solace in our sense of place. Nearly a century later, these empty halls haunt. There is no evidence of squatting, no adolescent pranks or even a single graffiti tag. These shelters do not protect. They do not house. This foreboding stillness is elicited from this series of CMYK screen prints, which have been scanned and digitally enlarged and direct-to-substrate printed onto large scale aluminium panels, creating an immersive atmosphere, asking once again what it means to be “taken to the barracks.”
