BETWEEN OUR SEAS
An accompanying artist book to the print installation "Between Our Seas" Collection created and funded by the Villiers David Travel Award and Grant, Royal College of Art London, and Pumba Private Game Reserve Eastern Cape, South Africa.
"I want to make a work that encompasses life,
and in doing, so gains a life itself.
Born from sights so vast and expansive,
that they lost themselves in wonder.
A land that, having reached the edge the world,
dismissed abandon and stepped again."
-excerpt
This work is about renewal. It returns us to the earth, and redefines the scale of our existence in terms of eras instead of years. It asks us how we mark the world, and how it in turn marks us. It is an intricate and interwoven portrait of a place: an amalgamation of stories, histories, memories, and experiences. This artist book is acts as a synthesis of nature and experience, a first hand account of a travelling outsider, observations, and contemporary reiterations of an ancient land in the midst of its present cultural redefinition. Abstract available upon request.
Edition of 12, 133 pages. Printed in London.
