BETWEEN OUR SEAS

V I L L I E R S  D A V I D   T R A V E L  G R A N T  x  R O Y A L   C O L L E G E   O F   A R T

Print Installation comprising panelled lithographic mono prints & hand bound artist book

“I often wonder what it means to be. What is time in relation to our own growth? Can it be measured linearly or rather in concentric circles?  Can it break the earth and rise up against the day’s progression? Either way, time passes.  And eventually, we must ask: what of us remains?  Ground to dusk, the red earth returns us to the wind, taking flight to once again fill the eyes and occupy the present tense.“ -excerpt from Between Our Seas Artist Book.

This work is about renewal. It returns us to the earth, and redefines the scale of our existence in terms of eras instead of years.  It asks us how we mark the world, and how it in turn marks us.  It is an intricate and interwoven portrait of a place: an amalgamation of stories, histories, memories, and experiences.
